The vision behind the boutique property is to create a hospitality model where in, luxury and service are provided in a historically and culturally significant ambience in the center Kathmandu Valley. To host our guests in an atmosphere that illustrates the grand lifestyle of the Rana era mixed with the original architectural heritage of Newar, Mustang and Terai cultures. Though modest in size the property is attached to BABER MAHAL REVISITED complex. Acting as an extension to the Vilas, Revisited offers a host of shops offering quality traditional products, and some of the finest dining options in the city.

Baber Mahal Vilas - The Heritage Hotel is a quaint family-run boutique property set in the existing architectural haven of Baber Mahal Revisited. In an effort to portray the distinct architectural features of Nepal in an blend of architectural design, the property shows 4 distinct styles.

The history

The property is built and run by the descendants of the longest ruling prime minister of Nepal Maharaja Chandra Shumsher Rana and his son Baber Shumsher Rana who was the Commander and Chief of the Nepali Armed Forces.

Perfect Family Time
We had a great time as a family. Very tasteful decor in Victorian era and comfortable suites! Central location makes it close to most places of attraction. The staff at the reception were excellent. Absolutely Beautiful
I travel quite extensively in five-star hotels and this is not only the best value it also has a charm that is unsurpassed. The rooms, staff, and food were all exceptional. The food was wonderful both buffet breakfast and dinner.

It was my 3rd stay in Baber Mahal, it’s amazing place. It’s 15 min walk from the center which makes it nicely separated from busy Kathmandu, yet very close to everything worth seeing. Staff is fantastic, friendly and very accommodating to anything you need. The place is absolutely unique, where else could you sleep in real Nepalese palace? It’s worth mentioning that breakfasts and coffee is great.

We stayed at Baber Mahal Vilas during late November 2023 in suite N. 302.The whole property is beautiful with its traditional architecture, the suite was ample, nice decorated and well appointed located at the roof top next to a nice terrasse with flowers and even an Himalayan bees honeycomb.

Nepal's "Wes Anderson-style hotel"
We booked the whole hotel for a conference of three days and could not have been happier with our selection! It's a boutique hotel that could easily be the stage of a Wes Anderson movie due to the beautiful and detailed combination of different architectural standards. The managers of the hotel, Sanish and Rupes are extremely helpful individuals. Overall the staff of the hotel is very nice.
